Prajna Yoga 500 Hour Teacher Training Programs
The Organic Body with Tias and Surya Little
October 1-4, 2008, West Hartford Yoga, West Hartford, CT
This course is an in depth study of the internal organs in yoga. We study the way that postures, both dynamic and supported, effect the organ body and the key ways to mobilize and improve circulation into the viscera. We study the digestive system in the abdomen, and the respiratory system in the chest with emphasis on the location, structure, function and energetic of each organ and organ pair. We review the five vayus or “winds of breath” that relate to the organs and the chakras or nerve plexuses that relate to the organs. We also investigate the meridian pathways from the Chinese system of medicine that correlate to the organ body and how yoga postures serve to activate these meridians. In addition, we review the effects of diet and nutrition on the digestive organs. The asana practice will emphasize the effects of inversions, twists, backbends and forward bends on the respiratory and digestive systems.
Hands on Adjusting and Pressure Point Release Training
July 20-23, 2009, Santa Fe, NM
This training features the combination of therapeutic yoga postures and manual therapy. We will review the principles behind making adjustments in order to help position students further into a pose. Then using supine poses, we will cover a variety of techniques to facilitate greater opening through manual adjustments, massage and pressure point work.
Using restorative poses such as supta baddha konasana, viparita karani and balasana we will look at ways to increase range of motion and release stress via hands on contact. We will also work with acupressure points from Chinese Medicine and the marma points from Ayurveda.
The Art of Sequencing
July 24-27, 2009, Santa Fe, NM
The art of teaching is in offering smart sequencing. This course details the key ways to sequence a class in order for students to safely open. We investigate pacing, length of holds, how to sequence using props, and combinations of postures in sequence. Morning classes will review active sequencing and afternoon classes will review how to sequence restorative postures. We review standing, seated and inverted asana sequencing.
