Lymphatic Yoga: Supporting the Immune System
January 5, 2008
Yoga practice is preventative medicine, particularly for warding off the flu and respiratory tract infections. We’ll review the primary function of the lymphatic system; discover how yoga postures aid in the irrigation of lymph fluid; and practice sequences targeted at the glands and membranes around the throat, jaw, and upper chest. In addition we will review the power of “psychic immunity”, that part of our mind and bodies that must mindfully ward off negative emotion. Through asana, meditation, mantra and visualization this class serves to build “psychic immunity” by developing a positive and purifying attitude.

Shakti Feet
February 2, 2008
A yoga practice begins with standing poses and by freeing potential energy (shakti) in the feet. This course looks at the feet as the foundation to the temple of the body. We explore the architecture of the foot, the musculature of the outer shin and the way feet activate the leg in seated poses and inversions.

Yoking the Shoulder Girdle
March 1, 2008
It is all too common for the shoulders to displace forward resulting in pain in the neck region, tension between the shoulder blades and numbness in the arm and hand. This class will review the primary muscles that hold the shoulder in place and we will practice yoga postures that help set the
shoulders efficiently on the spine.

The QL
May 31, 2008
The most important muscle to stabilize the low back is called the Quadratus Lumborum. People who suffer low back pain compression, inevitably have a tight QL. A foreshortened QL can pull the ribs out of place, create scoliosis in the spine and cause the pelvis to jack upward. In this this class we investigate this key structure in the lumbar region and practice a sequence of poses designed to free restrictions in the QL--mainly front bends and side bends and front bend/side bend hybrids.
